What kind of bicycle would you purchase for around town?

GayleJeff asked:

I want to purchase a new bicycle for myself – for general riding – not road racing. I want a comfortable bicycle that doesn’t weight a ton. I am not interested in off road biking, just around town. I would really appreciate some suggestions on good quality units and why they work for you. Thanks for your help.

  1. Making Friends

Go the the local bike shop and check out the hybrid or comfort bikes. They are very lite and comfortable to ride. Stay away from Walmart and other department stores those bikes are junk.

Your choice is a hybrid / cross trainer. It will offer you upright sitting position, with flat bar, road type gearing, and wide tires. This provides to you a stable, fast, comfortable ride. It is great for the road, and will even due dirt and trails if you desire!

Make sure you add at a minimum 1 water cage. I would also attach a rear rack, with a permanently attached stainless steel wire basket. This will give you the ability to go any where and just throw it in the ‘trunk’. My girls use them at the university to carry books, a big bag of groceries, or jackets and workout stuff, even a big soccer bag to practice (for that they use a spider bungie for a tie down).

    Have a good biking summer!
