Front Gear Stuck. Part II?

SouthDeco

Hi I have an 07 Orbea Onix and I am new to cycling. I was spinning on a trainer and I shifted from my front small chain wheel to the big chain wheel. Now I can’t shift back to the small chain wheel. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it?….I tried shifting to the gear behind the left break while pedaling and it won’t really move. Also tried shifting the left break gear and nothing.
…Yes, I shifted sidways in towards the bike and the gear won’t shift. Thanks for the speedy replies.

Take it to a cycle shop

The levers push sideways to the inside of the handle bars.

Try pushing the front derailluer to the small chain ring as you shift down, it may be a spring or cable problem.

Check to see if the cable is actually moving when you pull the lever. Then, check to see if the front derailleur(thing that moves the chain over) is actually moving, or trying to move. If it’s moving, but not far enough, you need to adjust your derailleur(see:). If your cable is not moving, your shifters need to be adjusted/fixed. If the cable moves, but the derailleur doesn’t move at all, you need to get some part of your front derailleur fixed.

If you’re still stumped, have your local bike shop take a quick look at it, they can probably tell you the problem free of charge.

    Good luck!

Moving the derailleur to the inner chainring slackens the cable.

Check first to see if that is happening when you shift. If not there is a problem with the shifter or the cable. If it slackens and the derailleur isn’t moving, it is a derailleur problem.

If your bike is an 07, depending on the weather conditions the bike was used — IE: rain, there could be a corrosion issue.

If you want it fixed take it to a shop — if you want to learn how to fix it yourself go to ParkTools.com and look in the repair section.
