its true he did lost a lot of weight. his muscle grew back differently. thats why he looks like less of a bulky rider now, compared to 1993. but over time he reached 165 again. some even say he weighed 174-5 back in 1993

i keep hearing and reading about how he lost so much weight after the cancer thing and how that helped him. Im 5’10″ also and my race weight is 150lbs.

    he weighs the same now.

165! Lance was so heavy back then.

at the time of this race I was in college and had no idea who he was. used a pic shot during this race as a magazine spread assignment. wish I kept that piece, now that I know who armstrong is….

We Europeans do not hate Lance Armstrong. Well, some do, but that’s always the case with succesful people. But your comment is ridicolous anyway.

That’s not to say he doesn’t have a lot of reason *to* like him, but yeah… also, I [and a lot of cycling fans] have an issue not with armstrong, but with some of his fans, who have this perception that he is The Greatest Cyclist Who Ever Lived. He’s good, damn good, best *grand tour stage racer* of his era. But not The Best That Ever Was. I don’t mean to diminish his accomplishment, but all I’m saying is people who are not Lance Fans are not simply “jealous” and only like LeMond for his name.

“And why would anyone hate Lance Armstrong?”
I’m saying there is some reason to. What I meant by “golden boy” was that he isn’t some perfect, flawless god whom the Europeans just chose to despise out of spite. He’s (less so these days, but that’s a maturity that’s fairly recent) always been a bit of an arrogant prick, and a lot of people don’t like him not for of all the tours he won, but the way he won… like some people hate the Patriots because they didn’t like the style they won by.

I don’t know if Lance is a “golden boy”, whatever that means. But he is a man who is the best at what he does, and a very grueling sport at that. And he is one who has survived cancer, and still went on to victory, over much younger opponents. That, and the fact that his occasionally “not nice” personality is the only thing people can say against him, and yes, he is worthy of respect.

Not true. I don’t have a personal problem with Lance Armstrong, but I certainly think that it is not reasonable not to like the man. He has a great “PR Face”, but there are moments where some rather… unfreindly… elements of his personality show up. That and he almost certainly doped in ’99. I’m cool with that, since so did everyone else. But to say he’s some kind of golden boy who the Europeans hate for no reason is rather naïve.

    whatever you want drexelur1.

But Greg “LeMond” has a French sounding name, so the Europeans gave him a pass. Europeans are just sore losers. And why would anyone hate Lance Armstrong? Did he rape anybody? Bite off the ear of any of his opponents? No. The only objectionable things he did was be American, and WIN! Sore losers.

Seriously now? One of Lance Armstrong’s best friends is the legend him self in cycling. Yes, Eddy Merckx. His carreer is a lot more impressive then the one from Armstrong.

Lance beat the best riders of the era here . . as the second group includes Indurain, Chiapucci, Tchmil, Bjarne Riis, Olaf Ludwig, . .

You can also see the larger upper body/torso he had then from his youthful triathlon days . . . . this is pre-cancer and pre-chemo . .
